Hoping for some help. Car been for a service and technician an experienced guy, says the timing chain needs to be replaced as it is louder than it should be. not been changed since i owned it, a few years now. Timing belt has been done with original audi parts 2 years ago but no chain was done at the time.

Correct you can not check electronically. But its literally a 10 minute check on ramps. There is an inspection port you pop.off and you can snap a pic. I seen online, as well as reading in threads, that you can view cam phase adaptation value, I believe that's what it is, to understand how your timing chain is. HXQn.
